8-Kilometer Course

The 8K course provides the most challenging parts of the Onaquispasippi Trail, and the most distance.

The race begins near the south end of main camp and runs north to the stationary bridge before turning left down to River Road. The course briefly comes back to main camp before taking the Shady Hollow Trail back to River Road's terminus. Turning left at the end of River Road brings runners around the north end of the river banks to finish the first mile.

The second mile continues along the northeast banks of the Salt Fork River, traversing creek beds, meandering footpaths, and Razorback, Camp Drake's steepest ascent at over 60 feet. The trail heads through single track forest trails to the finish of the second mile near the prairie. After running through the Jack Jones Arena where campers sing songs and put on skits in the summers, much of the third mile is spent on the prairies and through the shooting ranges before finishing in the south woods.

The fourth mile of the 8K is arguably the toughest stretch of the trail, but also the most scenic. The first half mile or so is non-stop winding trail with a steep descent into the south river bank, before quickly cutting back up a steep switchback to the campgrounds where scouts make their homes away from home.

The final mile follows the west river bank just feet from the water. At the swinging bridge runners turn quickly south to ascend a large set of stairs past the Nature Center, back across the swinging bridge, and quickly across the plateau before sprinting back across main camp (and past the cooking pancakes) to the finish line in the Friendship Circle.

5-Kilometer Course

The 5K course provides a faster, more familiar distance of trail for runners. It follows much of the same trail as the 8K course, but omits the loop through the prairie as well as the stretch from the south woods to the west river banks.

The 3rd mile of the 5K begins just north of the shotgun range and travels along the slightly hilly terrain towards the road. Following the road and turning through the Rankin Outdoor Adventure Place, the course stretches the length of Campsite Road before doubling back through main camp. For the last tenth of a mile or so, you wil loop around and head to the finish line at the Friendship Circle.

1-Kilometer Kids Race

The Kids K has been re-imagined for 2020. In years' past this race has been a fun thing to do for kids to do before their parents ran. This year, it's an exciting event of it's own.

The Kids K begins near the south end of camp and meanders the length of main camp for an easy, somewhat downhill start to the run. The second half becomes a challenging event that is sure to have your kids' legs "feelin' like Jell-O" by the time it's over.

The course guides kids over the stationary bridge and down the path to river road, before heading further still down the steep steps behind Eagle Cabin. Almost immediately after finishing the stairs down, they will take a second set of steps up to the campsites before being led across a small footbridge and into the Friendship Circle for the finish.

This may be difficult for younger children, so use your best judgment!
